Pigs
Once all the myths are de-bunked, we are left with the fact that well-fed and well-cared-for pigs are clean intelligent animals with charm and personality. The photo below also proves they are very handsome in a piggy kind of way. People who have lived closely with happy, well-cared for pigs, adamantly proclaim them to be the very best kind of pets. Life on modern lifestyle blocks, farms and rural Waikato locations gives us a great opportunity to experience the truth of these statements for ourselves, by sharing the fresh air and freedom of our country properties with a pig or two. Poultry and Birds
Birds are descended from dinosaurs say some scientists, so every time you look into the eyes of your budgie, your racing pigeon, your dove, or your favourite chook, seek out the essence of T-Rex that may still exist in the genes of your feathered friend. Seriously though, it is important to feed your birds, hens and poultry generously but thoughtfully if they are to live up to your expectations of them. Those expectations can range from egg production in poultry, racing success in pigeons or the plain old good company of a budgie.
Tip: Have you ever tried to hypnotise your chook? Hold its head gently to the ground, speak soothingly to calm it down and then with the tip of your finger gently and slowly draw a line out from its beak on the ground in a straight line away from it's head. Observe the reaction of your hen - it may surprise you! Some stay in their hypnotic trance for as long as 30 minutes!
